Healing from Trauma

The Process

Traumatic events and high levels of stress are a part of life. As much as we’d like to think otherwise, these events and patterns play a large role in how we live our lives and see the world. As Peter Levine PhD, the founder of Somatic Experiencing® says, “trauma is not in the event, but in the nervous system”. Figuring out how to heal from trauma can be overwhelming and next to impossible without proper guidance.

Sudden or ongoing trauma and stress can cause us to become stuck in the fight, flight, or freeze response resulting in imbalance and dis-regulation in our nervous system. These imbalances can seem subtle at first but over time they determine the path and quality of our entire life.

Unresolved, these can cause health issues, emotional pain and mental instability. Often displayed in the form of anxiety, depression, chronic pain, high reactivity, panic attacks, insomnia, overwhelm, or autoimmune conditions. In addition, we can experience an inability to focus and connect with others as well as a lack of joy and well-being.

Having experienced trauma myself, I draw from my knowledge of trauma resolution, stress management and personal transformation to help clients find their way back to themselves. I incorporate the modality Somatic Experiencing which is a psychobiological method for resolving symptoms of trauma and chronic stress. I create a safe and nurturing space helping to support ones nervous system to regain its intrinsic balance. This allows individuals to develop a greater sense of resilience, ease, well being and connectedness.

Everything changes once we identify with being the witness to the story instead of the actor in it.
